2018 Ford EcoSport

If you need a versatile car that's just as comfortable commuting to work as it is heading out for a weekend getaway, you'll probably like what the EcoSport brings to the Alliance, Canton, and Hartville area roadways.

To show you just what this compact SUV has to offer local drivers, the team at Montrose Ford Lincoln of Alliance put together this 2018 Ford EcoSport review in which we'll look at its powertrain, driver-assist technologies, and cargo space availability. To check out this car in-person, find a Ford dealer near you!

Ford EcoSport: Powertrain

The first stop in our Ford EcoSport review will be a look under the hood. A 1.0L EcoBoost® I-3 engine comes standard and delivers 123 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque. It's paired with a lightweight front-wheel drive system that helps you achieve an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 27 MPG city and 29 MPG highway.

For a bit more power, you can upgrade to the available 2.0L I-4 engine that generates 166 horsepower and 149 lb-ft of torque. This is a popular option for drivers in our area because it comes with the Intelligent 4-Wheel Drive (4WD) system.

This system monitors your conditions and automatically redistributes torque between all four wheels to improve your grip when accelerating on snowy roadways. During clear highway driving, it eases off and allows you to operate in an efficient FWD system. That's why this engine keeps your EPA-estimated highway fuel economy at 29 MPG. It also achieves an EPA-estimated city fuel economy of 23 MPG.

Cargo Space

While this is a compact SUV, the Ford EcoSport is highly spacious when you open the swing-gate rear hatch to load up your luggage. This hatch opens out like a fifth door for easy access to your 50 cubic feet of total cargo space when the rear seat is folded down flat.

If you need all five seats for passengers, you'll still have 20.9 cubic feet of trunk space for cargo. With the available Cargo Management System, this area is highly versatile. You can easily lift the load floor to secure small and fragile items. They'll be safely tucked away from any heavier items stored on top.

Need more space? There are also available roof rails and crossbars for carting mountain bikes, kayaks, and more up to Lake Erie. Settle in and get comfortable and keep your lunch nice and cool by storing it in the climate-controlled glove box.

Driver-Assist Features

When you're all packed up and ready to go, you'll have several driver-assist features to help you out when you hit the road. These are features like available rain-sensing windshield wipers that turn on and adjust their speed based on the rate of precipitation on your windshield.

Available BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) can also help you merge safely on the highway and in the city by alerting you to cars in your side blind spots. The Cross-Traffic Alert system also tells you when cars have entered your rear blind spot, so you can safely back out of your space in the busy parking lot after a Browns game or a concert.
